Nuno Espirito Santo “on the verge” of becoming next Crystal Palace manager

Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly “on the verge” of becoming Crystal Palace’s new manager.

The Telegraph‘s John Percy has claimed that the Eagles are on the verge of appointing the 47-year-old, who left Wolves by mutual consent at the end of the Premier League season.

Everton were also believed to be keen on Nuno and have a vacancy after Carlo Ancelotti chose to move to Real Madrid.

Palace have spoken to a number of candidates as part of their process of appointing a new boss – including Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe. Two other options had been managers who have impressed in the Championship, Swansea’s Steve Cooper and Barnsley’s Valerien Ismael.

Sean Dyche, previously considered for the position, was an attractive option but looks set to sign a new long-term contract at Burnley.

The Telegraph claims that Nuno is the preferred option and they add that an announcement could be made later this week.

Palace are facing a big summer with a major chunk of their first-team squad out of contract at the start of July. Striker Christian Benteke, set to feature for Belgium at Euro 2020, did sign a two-year contract extension last week.

Nuno had four years at Wolves and led them to the Championship title in his first season at the helm after arriving from Porto in 2017.

He had signed a three-year contract extension until 2023 in September.

Nuno also took Wolves back into European football for the first time in 39 years. They finished seventh in the Premier League while also reaching the Europa League quarter-finals – an impressive feat considering the demanding fixture schedule.
