Erith motorcycle racer Casey O’Gorman stamped his authority in the first round of the British Talent Cup at Oulton Park last weekend, taking maximum points and the championship lead.

The 13 year old who missed the official tests due to racing in the European Talent Cup, qualified in second place after being pipped for pole in the dying moments by VSB Motorsports rider, Carter Brown.

Being mentored by Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and his 67 Sports Management company, O’Gorman dropped back to third after the start of Saturday’s 14 lap race before second placed rider, James Cook, crashed bringing out the red flags.

From his original position in the restarted race, reduced to ten laps, O’Gorman made a better start, holding onto second place for the time of asking behind Carter Brown.

By mid-race the top three had broken away from the pack with O’Gorman taking the lead on lap six with Evan Belford following him through into second and then taking over the lead a lap later.

One lap to go and the Microlise Cresswell Racing rider sets the fastest time and holds on for the final lap to take the win by 1.157 seconds from Belford and Brown.

Starting on pole for Sunday’s race, courtesy of his fastest lap in the previous outing, O’Gorman got the holeshot to lead for the first lap.

After stretching his lead to three seconds, second placed Brown started to close the youngster down and with four laps to go was breathing down the Irishman’s neck having demolished the lap record set by O’Gorman the previous day by over one second with a 1:47.979.

Just as a battle royale was about to commence, an incident further down the field brought out the red flags, calling a result to the race and securing another win for O’Gorman.

A delighted O’Gorman took to social media to say “I done the double in the Honda British Talent Cup taking the 2 wins for the first time.

“So happy. The prize money will get me to Portugal for the next round of the European Talent Cup next weekend.”

O’Gorman travels to the Portimão Circuit in Portugal for the next round of the European Talent Cup this weekend before heading back to the UK for the next round of the British Talent Cup at Knockhill in Scotland.
