Oli Burke has extra motivation to impress on his Den debut for Lions

Loan recruit Oliver Burke is set to make his Den debut tomorrow and admits the fact it will be against his former club West Brom will give him one extra reason to want to impress.

The Baggies allowed the Millwall new boy to join Sheffield United in September 2020 with Callum Robinson moving in the opposite direction. Burke played just 27 times for Albion following a £15million switch from RB Leipzig.

“One hundred per cent it gives me extra motivation,” he told the South London Press.

“I don’t feel I got a full crack at it [at West Brom]. But it’s also just the fact it is your old team – everyone grits their teeth against former clubs.

“You go into every game giving it 100 per cent but I still know some of the boys who are there. It’s going to be nice to play against them.

“I’m sure the [Millwall] fans are wild, as everyone says. I’m really, really looking forward to it.”

Burke can play anywhere along the frontline. Asked if he had a favoured position, the Scottish international said: “Probably the wing. I know in my time managers have tried to adapt me into a striker role but I’ve always really, really enjoyed playing on the wing.

“It’s where I started at Forest and what I was – a winger.

“I like any attacking position, being a striker as a two has been good for me too. Just anywhere I can attack.

“I like to create chances, almost more than score myself.

“You always get a better feeling when you score but I’m the type of player who can create things – not just be the goalscorer.”
