Oliver Glasner pleased Crystal Palace secure Leicester victory despite not being at their best
Oliver Glasner was pleased his Crystal Palace side were able to come away with three points from their 2-0 win at Leicester City on Wednesday night despite not being at their best, writes Edmund Brack.
The Eagles’ best chance to take the lead came in the 27th minute when a Daniel Munoz deflected block fell into the path of Jean-Philippe Mateta.
But French striker Mateta was unable to apply the finishing touch, hitting his left-footed effort high over Jakub Stolarczyk’s crossbar.
The 27-year-old made no mistake, though, when played through by Ismaila Sar six minutes at the start of the second half, rounding Stolarczyk and slipping a left-footed shot into the empty goal.
Rudd van Nisterlrooy’s side went close to equalising with 20 minutes left to play when Boubakary’s shot from the edge of the box bounced into the ground and onto the crossbar.
But Palace sealed all three points in the 77th minute when a free kick from Eberechi Eze was floated into the back post and Marc Guehi applied the first-time volley to double Palace’s lead.
The Eagles have now just lost one of their last 10 Premier League outings.
“We’re very pleased with the result, the three points and the clean sheet, but we’re not satisfied with our performance.
“In the first half, we were lucky that it was a draw at half-time. Everything was how we prepared the game, but we just didn’t do what we wanted to do – we didn’t attack in the right intensity.
“A big credit to the players that they could adjust it at half-time – they increased the intensity, played forward more and scored goals.
“It was not our best performance today but we’re pleased with the performance and three points.”
