Oliver Glasner wants Crystal Palace players to ‘get addicted’ to winning Premier League games

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner wants his side to become addicted to collecting all three points in games after extending their winning run following a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The Eagles took the lead in the 55th minute when Jordan Ayew played a neat one-two on the edge of the box, and Jean-Philippe Mateta raced through on goal to net his 10th Premier League goal of the season.

Mateta doubled Palace’s lead and sealed all three points with two minutes of normal time remaining when he collected Will Hughes’ cutback and slotted his effort through the legs of Martin Dubravka.

Palace are now mathematically safe for a 12th consecutive season after three wins on the bounce in the Premier League.

“Now we hope for four in a row,” said Glasner.

“A very famous coach in Germany said once: ‘After the game is always before the game.’

“It’s a great performance and all the credit to the players for the performance, energy, intensity and the offensive way of playing.

“It’s a good feeling to have completed mission number one – staying in the Premier League.

“I hope the players get addicted to winning games, these feelings and emotions.

“I have to say thank you to the players for the trust they gave us from day one. We changed many things, and they were always listening and working hard – they gave us the trust and belief in what we were telling them.

“I was really scared during the first 30 minutes, given the intensity we played with. It’s not a joke. I was scared I would have to make 10 substitutions in the 60th minute because I couldn’t believe what I saw.

“There were moments that Newcastle didn’t get out of their half. This is Newcastle who are playing for a European spot and in the Champions League this season.

“It’s really amazing.”
