On-loan Norwich City centre-back set to start against Blackpool
Akin Famewo is set to return to Charlton’s defence for Saturday’s home game against Blackpool.
The on-loan Norwich centre-back made his return from an ankle injury in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Fleetwood – playing the full 90 minutes.
Famewo was on the bench for Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Burton Albion and ended up being unused with the hosts chasing the contest from early in the second period.
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “It was just too much of a risk [to start him again]. He did well on Saturday but the most important thing was he came through it.
“I knew I had to leave him out because it would’ve been high risk of him breaking down. Now he has had a little break he can come back in now.”
Bowyer takes advice from head physio Danny Murphy over the workloads of his players – both in terms of training and match minutes.
“I make the final decision,” he said. “It’s up to me whether I take the advice or not. But he gives his recommendation and, to be fair, Danny is good. That’s why we brought him to the club.
“His job is to give me as many fit players as he can. He’s doing that. Sometimes his advice is ‘don’t train this one as hard today’ or it could even be in games. He’ll say: ‘There’s a risk if you play him – but it’s your call’.”
