On-loan West Brom striker has extra incentive to make quick playing return for Millwall

Kenneth Zohore will have to be fit and playing games before the end of 2020 to stand a chance of extending his Milllwall stay.

The on-loan West Brom striker is set to be missing for eight weeks with a calf injury sustained in last month’s 2-0 victory at Preston.

Zohore scored in that victory and impressed. But now he is facing a race to be back available before the end of the year.

Millwall only loaned the Danish forward until January 16 and Lions boss Gary Rowett has revealed that was done so that there was a break option if he struggled to reach match sharpness.

Tottenham loanee Troy Parrott went back to his parent club for treatment on ankle ligament damage.

But Zohore is set to do his recovery in SE16. Rowett said: “We’re going to try and keep him here. The loan goes to the middle of January and that was always one the factors – a big part for Ken was going to be proving his fitness. That’s why we didn’t do any longer.

“He’ll be with us for the duration of that rehab. The hope is that he is fit around the middle or end of December and able to have an impact before the loan runs out.

“Then it is going to be a big decision. He’s going to have to have played games and proved his fitness to merit us keeping him longer.

“It was quite a biggish deal for us as a loan. We’d have to be sure he was going to be fit and have an impact for us to try and extend it. The intention is there – it has always been there. We hope he comes back in good shape.”
