‘One of the best in the league’ – QPR boss Cifuentes reacts to Ilias Chair signing new contract
Chair has only featured 16 times for Rangers in the Championship this season owing to two serious injuries.
However, he has been a consistent performer in west London since breaking into the first team in 2019 and is now set to remain at Loftus Road for the foreseeable future.
“Great news for the club,” said Cifuentes. “Great news for the team and for me as a manager. You know how much I rate him.
“In a difficult season, with two injuries, he’s still picking up the best version of himself but I’m sure he’s going to be a very important player for us – not only this season but in the future. He’s an amazing guy who loves the club.”
Chair is the latest QPR player to sign a new deal in recent weeks, following on from Kieran Morgan, Alfie Lloyd and Rayan Kolli.
The new contracts have provided a welcome boost for the club as they’re remained quiet in the January transfer window.
The loan addition of defender Ronnie Edwards from Southampton is the only move Rangers have made so far.
“There are areas in the club that we can keep working on and, as all the teams in the world, we analyse all the situation in the market,” explained Cifuentes.
“It’s important to give a lot of credit to these guys and keep believing in the growth of these guys. It’s much easier to make this question after a defeat than after a fantastic run.
“We’re going to analyse all the situations in the market in these last few days and only in case there is something that can really help the team we will try to improve.
“Always my players are best in the world. My work is to help them develop.”
