‘Outstanding’ – Former Stockport defender grabs first Wimbledon goal in Sutton victory
Ryan Johnson scored his first goal for AFC Wimbledon in Saturday’s 3-0 win over local rivals Sutton United.
The defender joined the Dons in the summer on a free transfer from League Two side Stockport County.
He gave the Dons the lead in the 64th minute when he headed James Tilley’s free-kick beyond Sutton keeper Jack Rose.
Johnson won eight aerial battles – the most of any player on the pitch – and completed 20 clearances.
“I’m really pleased for him,” said Jackson.
“I felt as though he should have scored a couple already with what a threat he is in the box.
“He’s a defender first and foremost.
“Let’s talk about his defending, because it was outstanding.
“But brilliant that he’s popped up with a goal. He’s such a threat on both boxes, and we have such good delivery, so it’s something we should be doing more.
“We ended up getting two from set pieces today, so I’m well pleased with that.”
