Palace boss Roy Hodgson on transfer window finale – as Manchester United keeper one deal being worked on

Crystal Palace have moved a step closer to signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson after agreeing a deal with Manchester United – with manager Roy Hodgson admitted more reinforcements are required before the transfer deadline shuts on Friday night.

Henderson, on the bench for United in yesterday’s 3-2 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest, is expected to hold talks over personal terms and undergo a medical with the SE25 club.

Vicente Guaita is keen to quite to quit Palace and Henderson is viewed as the long-term option between the posts for Palace.

If Henderson arrives it could also see Sam Johnstone, current first choice, move on a permanent basis to Wolves.

The Eagles drew 1-1 at Brentford yesterday and Hodgson was asked about whether more attackers would be signed before the 11pm cut-off on Friday.

He said: “We’re working on it. When I say working on it, Steve Parish and Doug Freedman are working on it.

“We would need some more people in that area because you are going to get injuries. We’ve been lucky in the first three games. We haven’t needed to change the team because the same 11 have been available for all three. We can’t rely on that for 35 more games.

“We need some more bodies. Today Mateta showed it was useful to have someone like that so that when Odsonne Edouard was tiring a little bit you have got someone to put on and keep momentum, in terms of pressing.

“Transfers have to be a nightmare for the people who have to bring transfers off – the chairman and sporting director – but they seem to always find a way to get there in the end.

“I’m hoping that will be the case on this occasion. They do have all my sympathies, I’d much rather coach the team then deal with transfers.”
