Palace captain Milivojevic: We missed so many chances against Newcastle
BY ANDREW MCSTEEN
Crystal Palace fell short of clocking up their 100th Premier League win as they could only draw 0-0 against a winless Newcastle United on Saturday.
After just two minutes James McArthur missed the home side’s first chance with a header he later admitted he should have connected with, and at the end of the first half a free-kick from Luka Milivojevic hit the post.
But the biggest chance for the home side was in the 82nd minute when Mamadou Sakho headed wide of an open goal.
“We missed many chances, especially in the second half, while in the first half we hit the post,” said Palace captain Milivojevic.
“We deserved the three points but, in the end, we took a point.
“When you cannot win, then [you have to make sure you] don’t lose, but we’re not happy.
“We were compact and had good organisation. We moved the ball quickly and created a lot of chances.
The most important thing for me was to get a clean sheet. We can take a lot of positives from the game.
“We started the season very well. But after the Fulham win we had three [league] defeats – maybe the first two were unlucky and then we had the third one, against Southampton, which we didn’t want to lose.”
