Palace duo called up to England squad

Crystal Palace duo Sam Johnstone and Marc Guehi have been called up to the England squad for their upcoming fixtures against Australia and Italy.

The Three Lions host Australia in a friendly at Wembley on Friday and then welcome Italy in a Euro 2024 qualifying clash.

England currently sit top of Group C after five matches played, with Italy six points behind Gareth Southgate’s side.

Guehi played 90 minutes in the last qualifying game for the Three Lions – a 1-1 draw with Ukraine – and also featured for 45 minutes in the 3-0 friendly win over Scotland before coming off with an injury.

Johnstone competes with Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale for the starting spot.

Greenwich-born Eberechi Eze has missed out after, as we revealed on Tuesday, the creative midfielder picked up a hamstring injury which could rule him out for up to six weeks.
