Patrick Vieira gives praise to his players – not himself – for double sub helping Palace fight back against Leicester

Patrick Vieira handed all the credit to Jeffrey Schlupp and Michael Olise for his second-half substitutions paying off in Crystal Palace’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.

The Foxes went in 2-0 up at the interval. First Kelechi Iheanacho punished Joachim Andersen for attempting to dribble past him  and then Jamie Vardy stroked home a second.

But Olise, who replaced Jordan Ayew in the 53rd minute, slammed past Kasper Schmeichel. Then Schlupp, who had only been on the pitch 48 seconds, headed in a deserved leveller for the South Londoners.

Vieira said: “All the credit really to the players because they were concentrated and ready to come on and bring some energy. For them two to score the goals is what we needed and what we wanted.

“I was really frustrated about the first half. About the mistakes and the chances that we created and not managing to score goals. Going into half-time 2-0 down was really harsh on us. But we had ourselves to blame. We made the mistakes and in the Premier League, against those kind of teams, you get punished straight away.

“We had chances and we didn’t finish well. We have to learn from those situations and turn it into our side.

“Those two players coming from the bench bring something to the team. We are all together and playing at home, the fans, the support, this energy that was on the field and came from the crowd gave us confidence and belief.

“In the second half we came back, scored two goals and were really close to winning the game.”
