‘Played well’ – Millwall boss delivers verdict on defender’s performance in Bristol City stalemate

Millwall manager Gary Rowett praised Murray Wallace for his performance during Thursday’s 0-0 draw with Bristol City.
The defender had 82 touches and made nine recoveries as the Lions were forced to settle for a point against a determined and organised Robins side.
Millwall did not have a single effort on target in the entire 90 minutes.
“Muzza played well,” said Rowett. “It was a difficult game.
“First half, we didn’t play with enough composure. Again, it’s that formation (3-5-2). Your full-backs are crucial in starting off your attacks. It took us probably 20 minutes to start to get to grips with that, and when we did, we kept coming back into midfield, which is fine, but we needed to go forward a bit quicker with a bit more quality.
“We played a bit safe tonight at times, partly down to our performance and partly down to Bristol getting behind the ball very quickly and the amount of times we made an extra pass and their two forwards had got behind almost our midfield in the end.
“Teams will do that, teams will defend with that sort of discipline, and they will deny us space, and that’s where we have to use a little bit more quality than we did today.”
