Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City – Arsenal loanee produces player of the match performance

Erling Haaland’s 78th-minute penalty secured all three points for Manchester City in their 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

The Eagles remain winless in 2023 and failed to register a shot on target for the third consecutive game in a row.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from Selhurst Park:

VICENTE GUAITA – 8

Great save in the second minute to deny Rodri’s volley from the edge of the box.

Produced another great save to deny Phil Foden’s second-half free-kick from close range.

Kept City out for the majority of the match and could do nothing about Haaland’s spot-kick.

NATHANIEL CLYNE – 6

Had to attempt to stop Jack Grealish from gliding towards goal. Failed to complete a tackle or interception.

Blocked a shot early on but was replaced by Joel Ward in the 71st minute.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 7

Completed nine clearances – the most of any Palace player.

Dealt well with Haaland and Julian Alvarez once the World Cup winner was subbed on in the 58th minute.

MARC GUEHI – 7

Also produced an excellent defensive performance to keep City’s attack frustrated for the majority of the match.

Completed five clearances and had the most touches, 60, and passes, 47, of any Palace player.

TYRICK MITCHELL- 7

Did well to win the ball back off Phil Foden and create a chance for Michael Olise to play Wilfried Zaha through.

Produced a couple of well-timed challenges to stop Foden from bursting through.

LUKA MILIVOJEVIC – 7

Had the thankless task of trying to stop Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Illkay Gundogan. After being bypassed in the early stages and committing to one needless challenge, the Palace captain grew into the game.

ALBERT SAMBI LOKONGA – 8

The Arsenal loanee produced a player-of-the-match performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Belgian was asked to man-mark Gundogan and sniffed out any danger whenever the City captain received the ball. Won four tackles and made three clearances.

Also, Lokonga did not lose possession once.

JEFFREY SCHLUPP – 7

Was forced to track Silva’s every move in the game. Having been dropped from the squad for the clash away to Aston Villa, Schlupp produced an assured defensive performance against the Champions.

JORDAN AYEW – 6

Won a really clever free-kick in the 38th minute to help ease the pressure on Palace but lost possession nine times.

Switched off for the corner, which led to Olise’s challenge on Gundogan.

MICHAEL OLISE – 7

Worked hard and played a great cross to create a chance for Zaha in the opening stages.

Really unlucky to give away the penalty – he was excellent defensively, making five blocks to stop crosses into the penalty area.

WILFRIED ZAHA – 6

Flashed an effort just wide in the first half. Had to lead the line by himself, which is a real slog in a side that fails to create any chances and has relinquished a lot of their attacking adventure from last season.

Completed three of his six dribbles and had three shots blocked.
