Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 1-0 defeat at Spurs – Defender picks up player of the match as Eagles leave north London frustrated

Harry Kane’s strike before half-time was the difference as Crystal Palace suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

SAM JOHNSTONE – 7 

Quick thinking early on to stop Richarlison from getting a shot off at goal from a Ben Davies through ball around the Palace defence.

Good save to deny Pedro Porro from the edge of the box in the second half. Excellent stop to stop Son in the 75th minute after the South Korean sprung the offside trap and found himself one-on-one with the former West Brom stopper.

JOEL WARD – 6

Was beaten at the back post by Harry Kane, who opened the scoring just before half time with a header from a move he created.

Completed six of his seven tackles.

The Hampshire Cafu couldn’t quite continue his attacking exploits from recent weeks and help Michael Olise down the right.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 8

Had a lot of joy at the back post from set-piece situations. He went close after beating Richarlison in the air and slicing a shot over Forster’s crossbar.

Went close again in the second half when he arrived at the back post once again, only for his effort to roll along the face of goal.

Was Palace’s biggest threat.

MARC GUEHI – 6

Good interception to create a chance for Zaha early in the second half. Got caught out of position with Spurs’ opener.

TYRICK MITHCELL – 6

Assured display on his 100th appearance for the club, Had to deal with Son and Porro bombarding his left-hand side.

CHEICK DOUCOURE – 6 

Vital interception in the first half to cut out Pedro Porro’s cross that was destined for Son on the edge of the box.

JEFFREY SCHLUPP – 6

Stole the ball from Oliver Skipp in the 14th minute and created an opportunity which led to a corner.

Began to tire in the second half and was replaced by Will Hughes. Lost possession five times.

WILFRIED ZAHA – 6

Great mazy run to drive past Skipp in the first half. He was closed down by Heung-Min Son but managed to get a cross along the face of goal, which was cleared.

Went close early on in the second half to finding an equaliser, curling a shot just wide of Forster’s goal.

EBRECHI EZE – 5

Collected a ball from Wilfried Zaha in the 53rd minute but dragged a shot wide. Was suffocated for large parts in the second half and didn’t get on the ball as much as Palace would have liked.

MICHAEL OLISE – 6 

Bit of fortune to create Palace’s first sight of goal in the 26th minute, collecting the ball off Jordan Ayew and unleashing a shot straight at Forster.

Excellent defensive header to relieve pressure in the 42nd minute.

JORDAN AYEW – 5

Worked hard but found it difficult against Tottenham’s defensive unit. Was switched out to the left before making way for Odsonne Edouard.

No real chance to impact the game in limited time.

ODSONNE EDOUARD – NA

Was introduced in the 84th minute but couldn’t help find the equaliser.
