Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur

SAM JOHNSTONE – 7
Read a ball into the box well from Destiny Udogie early on to stop any threat.
Nevry moment when his clearance in the 15th minute rebounded off Son and out for a goal kick.
Excellent stop in the 18th minute when Timo Werner was through on goal after a Spurs counter. The ex-Chelsea forward was one-on-one with Jhonstone, who forced Werner wide and smothered his effort to keep the scoreline level.
Another good moment when he got his hands on a James Maddison free-kick to the back post, pushing it away for a corner that came to nothing.
Could do nothing about any of the three goals in the final 13 minutes.
DANIEL MUNOZ – 6
Nearly reached a blocked shot from Eze that fell kindly to him in the area, but Guglielmo Vicario just got to the ball before the right wing-back.
Completed three of his six dribbles – the most of any Palace player – and also completed made three interceptions.
JOEL WARD – 6
Vital interception in the 38th minute to stop James Maddison from twisting inside the area and shooting.
Another crucial clearance in the second half to stop Maddison when he had the ball in Palace’s penalty area.
Produced eight clearances during the 90 minutes.
Outjumped by Cristian Romero to allow the defender to put Spurs 2-1 up.
JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 5
Lost a key battle with Brennan Johnson for the equaliser, with the Tottenham substitute winning the ball off the defender and then squeezing past him.
CHRIS RICHARDS – 7
Another impressive display up until the 77th minute.
Could not keep up with Son for Tottenham’s third goal as the South Korean was through on goal with just Johnstone to beat.
Made eight clearances during the game.
TYRICK MITCHELL – 6
Gave away possession in the second half, with the passage of play leading to Son hitting the post.
Blocked four crosses during the 90 minutes.
JEFFERSON LERMA – 6
Did well to stop Rodrigo Bentancur from getting a shot off early on goal after getting into the box.
Lost a battle with Johnson in the build-up to the equaliser.
ADAM WHARTON – 6
Hounded Timo Werner down when he was through on goal in the first half. Although he could not reach the Spurs attacker, Wharton did well to keep up and help Johnstone, who pushed Werner wide and saved the shot.
Was denied the chance to really get on the ball and create something – only having seven passes and 15 touches.
EBERECHI EZE – 6
First chance to drive at the Spurs defence and wins a free-kick on the edge of the box, which he took and scored.
Excellent free-kick from the edge of the box.

JORDAN AYEW – 5
Only completed one of his three tackles and had to come off in the second half after receiving a knock in the first half.
JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA – 6
Used his body well and played Eze through for his free-kick that led to the opener.
Was suffocated by Spurs’ back three and Palace failed to create much during the game.
