Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s goalless draw at home to Nottingham Forest – Rak-Sakyi scores highly in first real Premier League test of the season
Injury-hit Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.
Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from Selhurst Park:
SAM JOHNSTONE – 8
Good save to deny Harry Tofollo in the 15th minute, palming away a long-ranged drive from distance.
Another good one-handed save to deny Murillo after the centre-back slalomed his way through Palace’s midfield and defence to shoot from the edge of the box.
NATHANIEL CLYNE – 7
Good challenge in the 41st minute to stop the advancing Callum Hudson-Odio from breaking into the penalty area.
Solid display on his first Premier League start of the season.
JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 7
Was one of the biggest threats going forward on Saturday evening – driving from deep and trying to set his side away on the counter with his passing range.
A sensational block to stop Gonzalo Montiel’s effort from reaching Sam Johnstone’s goal.
MARC GUEHI – 7
Got a block in to deny Gonzalo Montiel’s shot in the 58th minute.
Completed nine clearances – the most of any player on the pitch.
Also produced a stunning dribble from his own half to bypass several Forest players and set up Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on the edge of the opposition’s half.
TYRICK MITCHELL – 8
Whipped an excellent cross into the box in the 70th minute for Jordan Ayew to head just over Matt Turner’s goal.
Completed 100 per cent of his four tackles and looked good going forward.
WILL HUGHES – 6
Only completed two of his five tackles and had the task of trying to contain Morgan Gibbs-White, Ibrahim Sangare and Orel Mangala – a midfield trio who were far more well-versed in their style of play than Palace’s injury-ravaged side.
JAIRO RIEDEWALD – 5
Again, struggled to stop Forest in the midfield area.
Was on set pieces but was unable to conjure up any magic in Eberechi Eze’s absence.
JEFFREY SCHLUPP – NA
Had to come off after 25 minutes, with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi his replacement.
JORDAN AYEW – 5
Had Palace’s first shot of the match when he met Andersen’s cross. However, blazed his first timed effort over the bar.
Lost possession seven times – the most of any Palace player.
ODSONNE EDOUARD – 5
Should not have seen out the 90 minutes, having only just returned from a hamstring problem. Faded out of the game in the second half.
JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA – 5
Working off scraps and had to do a lot of chasing around.
Put Palace’s best chance just wide in the 63rd minute when Edouard found him just inside the penalty area.
SUBS:
JESURUN RAK-SAKYI – 7
Had a run at Toffolo in the 34th minute and drilled a cross along the face of goal.
Was Palace’s liveliest player in the closing stages of the first half.
Produced an excellent recovery challenge to stop Forest on the attack in the second half.
Completed three of his five dribbles – it felt like a performance that won Roy Hodgson’s trust.
CHRIS RICHARDS – NA
Came on in midfield and saw the point out after Riedewald was forced off.
