‘Players are 100 per cent behind me’ – Dons head coach Robbo after 19-game winless period

Mark Robinson insists that his AFC Wimbledon players are working hard to survive relegation to League One and are fully behind him.

The Dons lost 2-0 to 10-man Lincoln City at home today and are without a win in their previous 19 games in all competitions.

Wimbledon are only out of the League One drop zone on goal difference.

Wimbledon went behind after Lewis Fiorini struck a sweet strike past Nik Tzanev from distance in the first half.

After Lincoln had Brooke Norton-Cuffy sent off in the 66th minute, Michael Appleton’s side doubled their lead with six minutes of normal time remaining when Teddy Bishop rolled home John Marquis’ cutback.

Wimbledon have only won twice at Plough Lane in the league this season.

“We were good first half, and we were even better [in the] second,” said Robinson.

“We have talked about that – there have been times when we have looked a little bit deflated.

“It’s very easy when you’re in the form that we are, people always look to hard work [and say]: ‘They’re not working hard enough – they don’t want it enough’.

“The one thing I know is that they want it badly – so, so badly. That’s the easy go-to when you’re in the run of form that we are. But I know they want it – they want it badly, and they care.

“It’s our job to stay positive, level headed and make sure that we get out of this.”

Speaking on his players showing a fighting spirit during the match and playing in support of their head coach, Robinson added: “You would have to ask them, but if I didn’t feel that they were behind me, then it’s time to go.

“I am not going to stay in the job when you haven’t got the players’ [support]. But I know that they’re 100 per cent behind what we’re doing and behind me.”
