Pressure back on Frank Lampard as Chelsea head into derby clash with Fulham

BY PAUL LAGAN

The pressure resumes on Frank Lampard this weekend, when his Chelsea charges take on struggling Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Blues won 4-0 against League Two side Morecambe in the FA Cup last weekend to offer temporary respite for the Stamford Bridge legend, now in his second season at the helm at SW6.

Reports that former manager Avram Grant will be parachuted in to assist Lampard have resurfaced.

That suggests the club, while keen to assist the head coach as much as possible, are also of the opinion there is a requirement for greater managerial experience needed within the camp.

Lampard, pictured right with Timo Werner, has won just one of the past five league games and Chelsea languish in ninth place in the Premier League.

Charlie Brown, 21, has joined League One outfit Milton Keynes. Juan Castillo 20, has signed on loan for Dutch side ADO Den Haag.

With the men struggling, the women under Emma Hayes just get better and better.

They will overtake Manchester United at the top of the WSL if they beat them at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

The Blues, fresh from their 5-0 league thumping of Reading at the weekend, are three points behind the Mancunians but have a superior goal difference and a game in hand.

Fran Kirby, who hit four goals, against the Royals, said: “It’s going to be really tough.

“We played them on the first game of the season and we got a 1-1 draw away from home which, in hindsight, we look back on now and it’s a really good point. They are coming to our home. We’ve got to be ready and I’m sure after another good week of training we will be ready to go.

“We want to keep on playing and keep on winning.”

Of the four goals she scored against Reading, Kirby said: “We were really clinical – but getting the clean sheet is just as important.

“It shows that even though we go 3-0 up at half-time, we stayed defensively solid and switched on for the whole of the 90 minutes.

“It was a good win, and I’m really happy to get on the scoresheet.”
