Daniel Farke was left very pleased with his side’s performance as they ran out 3-0 winners against Millwall on Sunday lunchtime.
Two goals from Joel Piroe and one from Georgino Rutter sealed a 3-0 win for the visitors in a scoreline that perhaps flattered the visitors. They showed a clinical edge to their play, scoring their three goals with their first three shots on target.
“Today, I am proud of my guys,” said Farke. “I’ve played here several times at The Den and I know how hard it is and what an unbelievably tough place it is to come to.
“You have to be on it. It was a pretty complex performance.”
It was the first time the Elland Road side had left South London with all three points since March 2012. The Lions had won eight out of the ten previous meetings at home.
“We as a cub have waited a long time to leave here with three points,” the former Norwich boss added.
“You have to spot on and that’s what we did today. There are periods of the game when you have to show steel and resilience.
“You have to be there and show these qualities because you have a very tough time here.
“You have to dig in and you have to give your life in this moment and also to stay calm and mentally strong.
“When you get those moments to calm the game down, shine and let your quality come through.”
All three of Leeds’ goals were clinical counter-attacks, the first goal in particular being a superb team goal that had been worked on the training ground, something the German was very happy to see of his team.
“We scored amazing team goals. When I think about the first goal, I can put it straight away into a book and sell it because it’s so wonderful. I’m pretty pleased with this.
“It was important today that our offensive players did their job, they did well in the build-up, and they also came back well and helped the midfield in what was a crucial battle.”
