QPR 3 AFC Wimbledon 0 – Dykes bags debut goal as west Londoners control friendly clash
BY NICK KITUNO
Lyndon Dykes scored on his debut as Queens Park Rangers eased to a pre-season 3-0 friendly win over AFC Wimbledon.
Ilias Chair drew first blood following a tight start, with Dykes adding a second going into half-time, before a Paul Osew own goal made it three after the restart.
It was QPR’s first bit of action since the Championship season ended on July, 22 but the Dons’ fifth friendly in two weeks after the 2019-20 League One campaign was cut short by Covid-19. The Dons were unbeaten in four heading into the clash.
There was little to separate the two teams in the opening stages but the hosts took the lead after 13 minutes when Chair’s right-footed shot proved too much for Connal Trueman to keep out.
The R’s then had a great chance to double their lead, only for Bright Osayi-Samuel to scupper it from yards out.
After the Dons thought they had equalised through Adam Roscrow, only to be ruled out for offside, new QPR signing George
Thomas pounced on Roscrow’s mistake to tee up Dykes for a tap-in on 43 minutes.
Rangers went three up after the break, courtesy of an own goal, when Todd Kane’s effort was turned in by Osew and remained in control for the rest of the half.
Substitute and recent signing Marco Ramkilde attempted to round goalkeeper Nik Tzanev late on but the shot stopper recovered just in time to keep it out.
