QPR boss Cifuentes pleased to see time-wasting rules applied in Plymouth stalemate
Marti Cifuentes had no issue with Plymouth Argyle’s attempts to run down the clock as they held his QPR side to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night.
Plymouth were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half at Loftus Road when defender Dan Scarr was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Ilias Chair.
Having made a positive start to the contest, this saw the visitors change their approach, particularly as they got close to earning a valuable point on the road after half-time.
Cifuentes could be seen pointing to his watch on the touchline as the minutes ticked away and Plymouth goalkeeper Conor Hazard was eventually booked for taking his time over a goal-kick in injury time.
However, the QPR head coach did not have an issue with either the time-wasting or the way in which referee Tony Harrington dealt with it, with the official sticking to new protocols introduced in the summer as he added on eight minutes in the second half.
“I don’t say anything about what other teams do,” explained Cifuentes. “I don’t say anything about the ref.
“I like the new rule about adding the injury time and it being much longer.
“I always say that if I’m a neutral supporter, what I want to see is football, what I want to see is the ball on the ground and how a team plays.
“I don’t want to see a lot of stops because then the game loses momentum.
“I hope these rules can help the team that really wants to play football so if another team wants to stop the game, I am fine with that as long as the ref is fair to add as much injury time as needed.”
