QPR boss has praise for one particular player after 1-1 draw against Watford

Mark Warburton has heaped praise on Tom Carroll after Queens Park Rangers earned a draw at home to promotion-chasing Watford.

The former Tottenham midfielder helped the R’s fight back from a goal down after Ben Wilmot’s second-minute opener was cancelled out late by Ilias Chair.

Carroll, who joined Rangers after leaving Swansea City early this year, has missed all but one game so far this season and Warburton is pleased with what he has seen.

He said: “I’m delighted for Tom because he’s come through a 10-month injury nightmare for him, with his hip, and he’s responded really well. His physical data has been the best in the team, in terms of distance covered, and he’s [running] over 12km a game, and doing outstandingly well.

“You don’t play the level he’s played at without being a very, very good player, but he’s a young man still. He’s not 34, 35 [years old], he’s 27, 28, approaching the prime of his career.

“I hope very much that Tom can take a lot of belief from the quality that he has shown, the fitness that he’s obviously demonstrated as well, and he looks like he’s enjoying his football which is really important.”
