QPR boss Mick Beale: Some of my family members are Millwall fans – I know what the banter is going to be like
Mick Beale has revealed that some of his family support Millwall, ahead of the QPR manager bringing his side to The Den tomorrow.
The 42-year-old was born in Bromley and was assistant boss to Steven Gerrard at both Rangers and Aston Villa before quitting to take the R’s job this summer.
“I am from South London, so I am aware of Millwall and have family members who are fans,” Beale told QPR’s official website. “I know a lot about this club. It is my personal opinion but, in the time that I can remember, I think Gary Rowett is the Millwall manager who is doing as well as anybody in terms of the way he is playing.
“Millwall are in a vibrant place at the moment and it will be a tough challenge, it always is when you go to the Den. The atmosphere will be absolutely fantastic with the minute’s silence pre-game and the emotion around it, it will add another spice to a London derby. I think the players in both camps are overjoyed to be playing.
“I think Millwall have scored more goals from set-plays than open play this season so that is an area we have to be aware of. They are a very good team at the Den, that is their strength. They are very strong at home and the fans make it a difficult place to go and play, and we are relishing it.”
“As a South Londoner I know what that banter is going to be like.”
