QPR boss provides injury update on key creative outlet ahead of Rotherham trip
QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth said that Ilias Chair’s injury is not as bad as first feared after the creative midfielder was forced off against Blackburn last weekend.
The Morrocan had to be replaced during the 35th minute of Ainsworth’s first game in charge last weekend.
Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side secured a 3-1 win thanks to a brace from Sam Gallagher and a strike from Sammie Szmodics. QPR’s only goal came via Aston Villa loanee Tim Iroegbunam.
Chair, 25, has five goals and seven assists to his name in 32 Championship appearances this season.
“It’s not as bad as everyone thought,” the former Wycombe boss told West London Sport.
“We’re hoping that Illias can recover very quickly. We’re going to see where it is this week.
“The way he did come off was quite worrying. In my first game, one of your magic players limping off after 30 minutes wasn’t nice to see.
“Fortunately, the news isn’t as bad as first thought – it’s better news than we thought it was.”
The West Londoners head to relegation rivals Rotherham this weekend, looking to end a run of 12 games without a win in the second division.
