QPR boss Warburton pleased with second-half display as they successfully raid the Rams

Mark Warburton was delighted with QPR’s “intensity” in the second half after they beat Derby 2-1 at Pride Park last night.

Tom Lawrence had put the Rams ahead before Chris Willock levelled just after the restart. Andre Gray became a hero with his 89th-minute winner. The result moved Rangers up to third in the Championship.

Warburton said: “In the first half we gave a really poor goal away after being tight in the last five games, so that was disappointing.

“We didn’t play with an intensity and didn’t move the ball enough with purpose. We were laboured and tentative. We had lots of ball in their box but never really threatened or showed that quality.

“All we needed to do was raise the intensity and show more belief and character, and get around the park. We did that in the second half and we looked good – it was a big three points for us, that’s for sure.

“We started the second half much better, on the front foot. It is so important because when we do that we are a good team. We have to be brave when we make decisions and make sure we keep our shape behind the ball.

“When we did that we looked a decent team but I still think there is a lot more to come.

“For this team it is all about confidence and belief, and a mindset. They have no idea what they can achieve.

“They just need to have that mindset. We will keep on working hard, it’s as simple as that.”
