QPR confirm Begovic red card appeal after Leeds sending off

QPR have confirmed that they have appealed Asmir Begovic’s red card the goalkeeper picked up in Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Leeds United.

The club announced on social media on Thursday evening that they had appealed the decision by referee David Webb.

Bosnian keeper Begovic was issued with his marching orders in second-half stoppage time for bringing down Leeds striker Patrick Bamford on the edge of the box.

Replays showed that ex-Crystal Palace and Chelsea striker Bamford jumped out of the way of Begovic and did not make contact with the stopper.

The former Stoke stopper has played every game under QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth in the Championship since joining on a free transfer after leaving Everton in the summer.

QPR take on Blackburn tomorrow [Friday] at Loftus Road.

Ainsworth said after the match: “Asmir is devastated. He said: ‘Gaffer, I did not touch the guy’. We watched the video replay and he hasn’t.

“We have had it rough lately. I would kick myself if I didn’t look at appealing that red card for Asmir.”
