Rarmani Edmonds-Green: I knew I had to take my chance to impress when it came along

He managed to notch his first goal in Charlton Athletic colours, but defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green admits he was left frustrated that the Addicks couldn’t find a winner against Stockport County.

The Peckham-born 25-year-old came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Kayne Ramsay and hauled his side level with a close-range strike midway through the second-period.

Charlton dominated the contest but were unable to get a decisive second goal to finish off the Hatters.

He said: “We created so many chances. Conceding a goal so early, it was very avoidable. But we had the chances to win the game, so I don’t know myself [how Charlton didn’t win].

“You can take pride of creating the chances, but we’ve just got to take them. Some of the decision making – you could square to your mate, and we could get a tap in. Take the chances and we win the game.

“It was wave after wave of attacks. They couldn’t live with us in some parts of the games. When the chances came, I was thinking sooner or later it will go in again. Unfortunately, it didn’t but we are creating the chances, that’s the main thing.”

Edmonds-Green, who can play either on the right or centre of a defence or in a defensive midfield role, had only featured in one League One game before Saturday but knew he had to take his chance when introduced due to Ramsay’s withdrawal.

“Unfortunately, what happened to Kayne, hopefully he has a speedy recovery and it’s not too bad,” he added.

“I’ve been waiting for my chance. In this formation we’re playing now I can play in three different positions. I’ve been waiting for the chance. Today I got the chance and hopefully I took it.

“I always have to perform when I go out there but today, I made sure I did what was asked of me and I got a goal as well so I’m buzzing.

“I was there and luckily put it in, thankfully. We’ve been working on our set-plays during the week. Brayney [James Brayne, set-piece coach] has been helping us a lot. One came off today and I’m grateful to get the goal. My first Charlton goal. I wish we were winning the game so I could celebrate properly.”
