Report claims Portsmouth still pushing for Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo
Portsmouth are still reportedly pushing for a deadline day move for Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo.
Romeo has made 161 appearances and scored two goals since signing for the Lions in 2015.
The Portsmouth News are reporting that the Blues are still firmly on the trail of the right-back in the run up to tonight’s 11pm deadline. They add that a loan move is still in the offing for the 25-year-old.
The same publication suggests Romeo is keen on the switch to Fratton Park after he was left out of Millwall’s squad on Saturday against Blackpool.
Portsmouth’s link to Romeo was given short shrift by Millwall manager Gary Rowett after Saturday’s Championship win over Blackpool. He said: “At least it stops them talking about Thommo [Ben Thompson] for a few articles! From the press speculation about a number of our players that Portsmouth are trying to get – that hasn’t actually correlated in any actual, real movement from Portsmouth.“They can talk about it all they want. But unfortunately in this market you have to put an offer in to try and see if you can get a player. Rather than hoping the number of articles makes a player walk out for nothing. That doesn’t quite happen.”
