‘Ridiculous’ – Millwall’s Gary Rowett explains why he doesn’t take notice of Manager of the Month nominations
Millwall’s Gary Rowett has been nominated for February’s Championship Manager of the Month – but reckons the award should be titled as a team award.
The Lions signed off that period with four straight wins and took 13 points from six matches.
Carlos Corberan (Huddersfield) .Nathan Jones (Luton) and Scott Parker (Bournemouth) have also been nominated.
“I don’t take much notice of the award because it seems quite ridiculous that it is titled as an individual award – it should just be for a team and be called Team Of The Month,” said Rowett. “That’s exactly what it is.
“It is a reflection of how hard the staff and players have worked.
If that means we’re up for awards because the team has won games and performed really well – fabulous, particularly in the circumstances the team has done it so far with lots and lots of injuries and limited options within the squad. There has been a real togetherness in this period. You’ve seen that in the different ways we have won games.
“All we’ve got to do is try and be in a similar position next month as well, which is the challenge.”
