Rotherham United boss Evans: We should have beaten Charlton by huge margin

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans was left unhappy at his side’s winning margin in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Charlton Athletic.

The hosts were 3-1 up at the break, Miles Leaburn on target for the Addicks. Matt Godden’s excellent strike in second-half stoppage time was only a consolation as Charlton’s six-match unbeaten run in League One was ended.

Evans told Rotherham’s official website: “What really disappoints me is that it’s a two-goal margin at the end of the game. It should’ve been about a six or seven-goal margin. People say: ‘There he goes…’ but the reality is we had total domination for long periods, chance after chance, great movement and some big performances.

“I’ve said to the players that because of our poor start to the season we have to produce goals and performances that get our supporters excited. It’s a cold day and supporters turn up saying we have been alright for three or four week but Charlton are coming to town. They have been in outstanding form and should’ve beaten Preston midweek in the cup – they had total dominance.

“But from the first minute in we got in their faces.

“Mallik Wilks is unlucky not to get four or five goals today. The goalkeeper got in the way of three or four wonderful strikes.”
