Roy Hodgson provides initial fitness update on Eze and Olise after Crystal Palace’s win over Sheffield United

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson admitted he was hopeful that both Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise would be fit enough for Saturday’s clash at rivals Brighton after both coming off with fitness concerns in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Sheffield United.

The attacking duo were both forced off in the second half after going down and required treatment.

Olise, who was starting his first game after suffering a hamstring problem in the 3-1 win over Brentford, which has kept him out of the last three outings, went off in the 70th minute after putting Palace 3-2 up against the Blades.

Eze, who bagged a first-half brace, was then replaced eight minutes later by David Ozoh.

They were starting just their fifth Premier League game of the season together.

“They haven’t really been fully assessed,” said Hodgson.

“Eze, for me, might be the one that concerns me a little bit more than Michael.

“That was his [Michael’s] first game in a long time since the injury and I was under some sort of pressure not to start him in the game.

“We started him for two reasons – he wanted to do it and I certainly wouldn’t be the man to say: ‘No, you can’t do it.’

“Eze is the one in particular that I’m waiting to see what they say about it.

“Both of them were pretty upbeat after the game. With any luck, they’ll both be there. If they’re both there, it will certainly improve our chances of getting a result at the weekend.”
