Roy Hodgson set for Crystal Palace return
Roy Hodgson is set to take over at Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.
The South London Press understands that Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy are likely to be named as Hodgson’s backroom staff alongside goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely.
It is expected that Hodgson, 75, and Lewington, 66, will be appointed this week, with the players who are not on international duty scheduled to return to training on Wednesday.
The Eagles are without a win in 2023 and sit three points above the Premier League relegation zone.
Hodgson and Lewington spent four years at Selhurst Park, keeping the South Londoners in the Premier League every season on a limited budget.
Vieira, 46, was brought in to replace Hodgson, but the French World Cup winner was relieved of his duties on Friday morning.
McCarthy was asked to take temporary charge of the side during Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Current U21 boss McCarthy looks set to earn a promotion to work alongside Hodgson and Lewington for the final 10 games of the Premier League campaign.
Bringing back Shaun Derry, who was axed from his first-team coaching role by Vieira, could also be an option for Hodgson.
