Roy Hodgson set for early Crystal Palace exit with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss a contender for the job

Roy Hodgson is set to have his Crystal Palace tenure brought to a premature end with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner a strong contender for the job.

The Eagles are 15th in the Premier League and five points above the bottom four.

Hodgson took his 200th game in charge of the South Londoners across all competitions on Monday night as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.

Palace head to Everton on Monday night, with it yet to be seen whether Hodgson will take charge of the side at Goodison Park.

However, the Palace board have decided the 76-year-old is set to have his third spell at the club – having returned in the summer after taking over from Patrick Vieira for the final 10 games of last season – brought to an early end.

Austrian head coach Oliver Glasner has emerged as a serious contender for the job in recent days.

Glasner made a name for himself as boss of Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub [LASK] in Austria, where he took the side from the second division to the top flight and eventually to the Champions League qualifying rounds.

A stint at Wolfsburg followed before being poached by Frankfurt after finishing in the Champions League spots in his second and final season at the Volkswagen Arena.

At Frankfurt, Glasner led the Eagles to Europa League glory in the 2021-22 season when they beat Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham en route to a 6-5 penalty shootout final victory over Rangers.

The 49-year-old, who is the preferred candidate of co-owner John Textor, has been out of work since leaving at the end of the 2022-23 season.
