Roy Hodgson stepping down as Crystal Palace manager at end of Premier League season

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Roy Hodgson will be leaving his role as manager at the end of the season.

The hugely experienced Croydon-born boss took over as in September 2017, saving the South London club after they made the worst start to a Premier League season. After a seven-game losing streak, during which they failed to score a goal, Hodgson masterminded a great escape as Palace finished a comfortable 11th.

Hodgson then looked to stabilise the club as a mainstay in the top-flight,  overseeing the club’s longest run in the Premier League – accomplishing a ninth consecutive season at the end of this current campaign.

He has had to comply with the financial restraints placed upon him,  ending his reignwith a net spend of minus-£11.5million during his four-year stint.

He is the club’s longest-serving manager in the Premier League – his last game in charge will be an away trip to his old side Liverpool.

The 73-year-old has been batting away the questions about his future all season long, with it still unclear whether this will be his last job in football.

As for Palace, it is widely known that they hold an interest in Paulo Fonseca, Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper, Frank Lampard and Valerien Ismael.

The Eagles are about to go through the club’s largest transition since their promotion from the Championship in 2013. Several key members of the squad are yet to commit their long-term future, and with Hodgson’s departure confirmed, the summer is poised to be monumental for Palace’s Premier League status.

With the Eagles welcoming fans through the gates of Selhurst Park for the final home league game against Arsenal on Wednesday night, it will present the Palace faithful with the opportunity to thank Hodgson for the dedication he has shown to the club.
