Rugby union: Kitto’s pace is crucial for Dons in Sidcup success

Third-placed Wimbledon travel to leaders Rochford Hundred tomorrow after a commanding 42-19 win over Sidcup.

The first try for hooker Josh Forrester came from a lineout drive after seven minutes with Steve Boatman converting from out wide.

But this was soon undone shortly when Sidcup’s wing Andre Patterson scored in the corner.

Wimbledon hit back immediately when lock Jack Cooke grabbed from a lineout, passed down the line and wing Ollie Kitto’s pace took him 45 metres into the righthand corner, with the conversion making it 14-5. A Boatman penalty made it 17-5 at the break.

Kitto scored his second from inside his own half on 46 minutes and a Cooke score made it 30-5 to secure the bonus point, Boatman converting.

Two minutes later he gathered a kick-through and ran over, then added the extras.

Sidcup centre Luka Syplywczak scored – but the visitors could not get a try bonus. Wimbledon’s strong defence surged up the other end, with fullback Freddie Hooper touching down under the pile of bodies.
