Ryan Leonard: Win at Plymouth was perfect present for incredible Millwall travelling support

Ryan Leonard reckons Millwall’s 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle in midweek was the perfect payback for their “incredible” travelling support.

The Lions had 606 in the away end on Tuesday with goals from Zian Flemming and George Saville providing the perfect response to last weekend’s disappointing 3-0 Den defeat to Swansea City.

Argyle went into the match with the most home wins in the EFL since the start of last season.

Millwall utility man Leonard, born in Plymouth and on their books as a kid, said: “It was a nice game for me, to have all my family at the game. To get the great win that we did, it speaks volumes for the group and the fans. The amount of support we took down there shows the club is all together.

“It is an incredible achievement to have that many fans go down there on a Tuesday night. I do the journey quite regularly and it’s not an easy one, especially when people are working and the way the world is at the moment.

“Hats off to every single one of them that travelled.

“They deserved to go away with three points and for Sav to get a goal with the last kick of the game was that bit of icing on the cake – it meant everyone could kind of let loose a little bit and enjoy the win.”
