Scott Parker makes Fulham transfer pledge as Premier League football secured

Scott Parker has insisted that Fulham will not spend so excessively next time around in the Premier League.

The Whites won promotion back to the top-flight with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Brentford last night in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Fulham were criticised for their financial outlay after triumphing in the 2018 showpiece, widespread reports claiming they splashed out more than £100million on signings – only to be relegated.

Asked if they had learned lessons and will overhaul their squad so extensively again, Parker said: “We can’t, because teams with drastic changes and drastic swings of players…this team have been around myself for the best part of 15 months and improved, improved, improved.

“There is a lot of improvement still to come, for sure.

“Additions, of course we’re going to need additions, because we’re going into the big league now. But no drastic changes.”

The new Premier League season starts on August 12. It means little down time for Parker or his players.

Joe Bryan’s double in extra-time saw Fulham’s squad partying in north London.

“I need a break,” said Parker. “The last 15 months and the last year in this division has been a whirlwind. Our sole focus has been getting in the Premier League.

“I’ve not even got time to sit back and chill and I need to sit back and chill – just look back and what we did this year. It’s been incredible.

“In my head I’m saying seven-10 days [break] but it will probably be three or four before I’m thinking of going again.”
