Scott Parker: My Fulham side have never lost belief they can survive in Premier League

Scott Parker saw his Fulham side move a win away from climbing out of the Premier League bottom three – and then hailed the belief of his squad.

The Whites were written off by so many pundits after a torrid opening to the campaign.

But Fulham have cranked up the heat on 17th-placed Newcastle United after taking seven points from their last three matches.

Former Charlton youngster Ademola Lookman lashed the winner in Saturday night’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. It was the Peckham-raised attacker’s fourth goal of the season.

“It was a big win for us,” said Parker. “There is a lot of emotion in the team, in terms of knowing what the result means.

“First half we were very good without really hurting them too much in the final third. We fixed that at half-time. This game was always going to hinge on one chance and you have the quality and composure to put it in – like Ade did.

“A massive result for us, and a very pleasing one.

“This team has real belief. I wanted to focus on us, what we need to do, how we can assert ourselves in games. The quality we have will ultimately get us results in this division.

“It’s a very young team. You need people who want to come in and learn, get better and improve. We’ve definitely got that.

“We have to win football matches – we can’t control what Newcastle do. I’ve got to keep pushing this team to get results. If I do that then I know we’ll be fine.”
