Sheffield United boss Wilder won’t go into reasons behind Neil Harris’ Millwall exit but describes job done as ‘incredible’
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder paid tribute to outgoing Millwall head coach Neil Harris following their 1-0 win over Millwall on Wednesday night.
The Lions confirmed on Tuesday that Harris would be stepping aside after this Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough having returned to the club in February following the sacking of Joe Edwards.
Blades boss Wilder labelled the job Harris did last season to keep Millwall in the Championship as “incredible”.
“I’ve known Neil a long time, our paths have crossed many times as a player, but most importantly as a manager,” said Wilder.
“The job he did last year was incredible. We were all surprised at the decision (that he was leaving).
“He’s a boy that loves his football club, like I do personally as well. I’m not going to go into the details of what happened but he’s just a really good guy as well as a football guy.
“He wants to win. There’s been plenty of battles that we’ve had on the touchline but I know he will be the first to say ‘come and have a beer’ afterwards. I don’t think that’s old school, I think that’s right. We all want to win, we are all after three points.
“The job he done last year was amazing. It was a team that obviously had not picked up the results it wanted and were heading the opposite way and got the results that secured Championship football. Even this season, Chopper said they are right up there for xG and big chances created.
“I’m not going to go into the detail (why he is going) but he’s a good guy and I wish him all the best in whatever he does next.”
