Should Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson have seen red? Millwall boss Neil Harris has his say

Neil Harris asked for clarification from referee Darren Bond over his decision to only yellow card Pontus Jansson in today’s 3-2 loss at Leeds United.

Millwall were leading 2-1 at the time when the centre-back appeared to elbow  Jed Wallace as he looked to break through.

Jansson was only booked by the official. But soon after the defender was replaced by United boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Lions chief Harris said: “I just spoke to the referee, Darren, before I came in, because I knew I’d get asked about it and I wanted to be clear.

“He’s given a yellow card for stopping progress moving forward. I just asked him did he not think it was cynical foul play by use of the forearm or elbow and he said no.

“I’ve only seen it in real-time and I’ve thought he has done him on purpose. I need to see it again on TV to judge. It was a key moment because it was 2-1 at the time and I thought the fine margins, like that, fell Leeds’ way quite a few times – the penalty in the first half, the red card incident that could’ve been. 

“But I take nothing away, Leeds are obviously a top side and we’ve run them very close today.”
