“Show some b*******” – Experienced defender rages after AFC Wimbledon’s latest loss at Plymouth

Lee Brown says that AFC Wimbledon need to find “a pair of balls” or are destined for relegation to League Two.

The Dons are without a win in their previous 17 games and are just a point above the drop zone.

Brown joined the Dons in the winter window from League One rivals Portsmouth. The 31-year-old has featured nine times and registered one assist since making the switch to Plough Lane.

Wimbledon fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of play-off-chasing Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

Brown told the club’s website: “It was a good start – we hit the post, had a couple of half chances and felt comfortable. But you don’t always have it all your own way for 90 minutes. I have never played a game where it’s all your own way for 90 minutes.

“Games go through spells. Yes, we had a good spell for 20 minutes, but we didn’t score when we were on top. Should we have? Probably, but we didn’t. That’s where the momentum changed, but that is where you have got to manage the game and don’t concede.

“We don’t manage the game, we concede, and all of a sudden, everyone’s shoulders drop. I have seen it at Bolton, I have seen it now [at Plymouth] and I keep seeing it. If you don’t sort yourselves out, we’re getting relegated – it is as simple as that.

“As players and as professional people, you need to have a look at yourself, because I am telling you now, getting relegated is not a good thing on your CV. People who think they’re going to get a move, you’re dreaming.

“From staff to players, everyone needs a reality check.”

The South Londoners have two crucial games coming up against 18th-placed Lincoln City tomorrow and then take on a Morecambe side who are just one point below them in the table.

When asked what was needed from the side to turn their fortunes around, Brown replied: “A pair of balls – that’s exactly what it is. We can sit here and say: ‘Be brave, go and win your headers’, but there are different ways of being brave.

“There is being brave without the ball and being brave on the ball.

“People have got to dig deep. Whatever it is, you have got to give an extra 10 per cent. Everyone has got to raise their game.

“We’re on a crap run of form, and how we get out of that is by working hard and showing a pair of b*******.

“There is no point dressing it up – I am sick of dressing it up.

“I am used to winning games, and I don’t like losing games. I don’t think it hurts people enough.”
