‘Shy’ – Fulham boss disappointed with first-half performance in Aston Villa defeat

Fulham boss Marco Silva was disappointed with his side’s first-half performance in their 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

Unai Emery’s Villa scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute when Tyrone Mings nodded John McGinn’s corner beyond Bernd Leno.

The west Londoners, who are ninth in the Premier League, failed to register a shot on target during the 90 minutes.

“Our first half was not at the level that we should have played,” Silva told BT Sport.

“We were shy. We were not aggressive on the ball and didn’t try to create the chances that we should.

“We conceded a completely sloppy goal. We gave them the scenario that they wanted. There were no big chances during the game.

“We reacted in the second half and took the game to them. We pressed differently and were a little bit more aggressive – we controlled the game.

“It was not our night in creating chances – our frontline players were not at their best level.

“It’s that creativity we need when some teams play so deep. We lost the game because the first half was not good enough.

“I would like to see our team play in our way, It was not the case in the first half, but now it’s down to us to show the players why and improve for the next game.”
