Silencing Den crowd was a part of the game plan according to Luton Town matchwinner

Luton Town matchwinner Harry Cornick revealed that keeping Millwall quiet for the first 20 minutes on Saturday’s Championship encounter was part of the game plan.

The attacker scored in each half to give the Hatters their first victory at The Den since May 8, 1999.

Cornick said: “It’s a tough place to come to. We knew that coming to The Den. It’s a horrible place to come to, the fans get right on you. They play a style of play that is hard to defend against and everyone today was unbelievable.

“They brought [Matt] Smith on for the last 20 minutes, lumping it into the box, and the three centre-backs won about 50 headers. James Bree won all the headers, and Sluga saves a penalty.

“We kept a clean sheet away from home at this place, which is a tough place to come and we had the firepower to score some goals and get the win which is lovely.

“It was part of our game plan to keep them quiet for the first 20 minutes, because we know it’s a hostile place. We know they’re going to be right after you, and they’re going to come at you. You have to weather the storm almost and get your chance and take it.

“I’ve always had it [the goals in my game] but I’ve never really produced it. It’s taken me about five years in my professional career to get a brace and then two come around like that.

“I’m delighted with the goals and it’s a great win for us.

“I’ve always had the ability to finish. I used to think I was a good finisher and then it’s just confidence really. Once you miss a few chances you start thinking about it too much and you start overthinking every chance you get.”
