‘So much potential’ – Charlton forward Matty Godden’s assessment of prospect Miles Leaburn
Matty Godden has talked about Miles Leaburn’s impact since returning to the Charlton Athletic first-team fold.
Leaburn scored in Saturday’s 4-3 FA Cup win over Southend United to add to his brace that he bagged in the EFL Trophy success over Chelsea U21s last midweek.
Leaburn also claimed the assist for Godden’s close-range finish against the Shrimpers at the weekend as the South London club progressed to the second round.
The former Chelsea youngster, 20, had around a year out with a hamstring injury before returning in early October.
Leaburn has featured six times in total this season.
“He has got so much potential because he is still so young,” experienced frontman Godden told the South London Press.
“He has got great feet for someone so big. If we can use that physicality more then he is only going to go on and be even more of a handful than he already is.
“We know he has just come back off such a long lay-off which is always difficult. It does take a while for your full match fitness to come. You need to do 90 minutes and hopefully that will happen soon. It would be really good for him but you have got to be careful with someone who has been out for so long.
“He has got a lot of talent for his age and his goalscoring record since he has come back into the side has been very good.
“It is a partnership I enjoy and look forward to for the rest of the season.”
