‘Some further reinforcements’ – Roy Hodgson makes transfer window admission following Crystal Palace’s win at Sheffield United

Roy Hodgson reaffirmed that Crystal Palace need more reinforcements after their opening day Premier League win over Sheffield United.

The Eagles collected all three points thanks to Odsonne Edouard’s goal in the 49th minute.

Palace have signed Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca this summer. However, they have lost Wilfried Zaha, Luka Milivojevic and James Mcarthur on free transfers.

Michael Olise has also required surgery on a hamstring injury he suffered on international duty with France’s U21 side. The Palace boss said during his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane that former Reading creative spark is out for a “considerable period” of time.

“I thought we ended last season well – we looked good,” said Hodgson.

“We had a goal threat and quality in terms of our passing through the midfield.

“But we have lost two vitally important players. Wilf Zaha is a match winner. As is Michael Olise.

“We won’t get Wilf back, but we need people like Michael back if we’re going to be anywhere near as good as we were last year.

“We also need some further reinforcements, if, for nothing else, then the players who are out there on the field today know that there are people behind them pushing them for their places.”
