South London’s Ademola Lookman has big say on Premier League title race
South London’s Ademola Lookman has had an impact on the Premier League title race after scoring the clincher in Leicester City’s victory over Liverpool on Tuesday night.
The former Charlton winger, 24, had only been on the King Power Stadium pitch for three minutes when he played a one-two with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and slammed a shot past Reds keeper Alisson.
The result leaves Liverpool eight points behind table-topping Manchester City.
Lookman also scored in his previous match, a 6-3 loss at Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Peckham-raised attacker rejected the suggestion his winner against Liverpool was the best of his career.
“I think I’ve scored better,” said Lookman. “It is another goal that is up there for me.
“Liverpool are a world-class team with top players – we showed a lot. It was an all-round defensive and attacking display. For us to get that moment and capitalise on it was vital. From there we grew stronger as a team.”
Asked what instructions Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers had given him just prior to his introduction, Lookman said: “Just to come on and be myself – to help the team, defensively and offensively. I looked to do that.”
Lookman has scored five goals in 18 appearances for the Foxes. He is on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.
