Southampton keen on loan deal for Crystal Palace winger in final days of January transfer window

Championship high-flyers Southampton are keen on a January loan deal for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

A number of Championship sides want to take the former Chelsea youngster on loan this January – but the South London Press understands the Eagles will only let the 21-year-old out for the rest of the season if they manage to land an attacking reinforcement in the final week of the window.

Rak-Sakyi has resumed full training with Roy Hodgson’s side after suffering a grade two hamstring injury and is in line for a return to the matchday squad for next Tuesday’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United.

Leicester agreed a deal to sign the former Charlton loanee in the summer, but Palace had to keep hold of their academy graduate after losing Wilfried Zaha, who turned down a new deal to join Galatasaray.

Rak-Sakyi made eight appearances under Roy Hodgson in all competitions – playing 64 minutes as a first-half substitute in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest – before being sidelined.

The Southwark-born attacker made 49 appearances during his first loan spell in senior football last season at Charlton, scoring 15 times and recording nine assists as he won the Supporters’ Player of the Season.

Russell Martin’s side are third in the Championship and looking to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
