Spirited AFC Wimbledon deny promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town

AFC Wimbledon played out a cagey 0-0 draw against Ipswich under the lights last night at Kingsmeadow.

In a fairly uneventful game, Ipswich huffed and puffed but failed to convert any of their chances after a string of spectacular saves from Cardiff loanee Joe Day in the Dons goal.

Ipswich had the first opportunity to take the lead when Emyr Huws was pulled down on the edge of the area in a promising position however the midfielder saw his free-kick deflect wide.

The subsequent corner offered the clearest chance so far with the ball dropping to Ipswich forward James Norwood who rifled his shot against the crossbar, the ball dropping past several Ipswich players in the box, none of whom could convert the ball into the net.

Ipswich were looking the more likely side to score after Norwood again got himself in a good position in the box, with Day getting down quickly to stop the low drive from finding itself in the bottom corner.

The Wimbledon stopper again proved his worth to the side when he came to the rescue of the home side in the 67th minute as Norwood was put through one on one after a poor pass from Rod McDonald.

Ipswich substitute Will Keane had a superb effort tipped over the bar, Day yet again producing the goods in the last few minutes to share the spoils in South London.
